Kathy has served on the LPS Board of Education since 2001. She has served as board president five times, including leading the successful bond election in 2006 and rebuilding of our district office in the wake of the devastating 2009 fire of the LPSDO.
Most notably, during her service, we have added all day kindergarten across the district, expanded college & career opportunities with the development of The Career Academy at SCC and the Aviation Program at North Star High School.
She is very proud of the new Early College and Career STEM Program at Northeast High School It’s a partnership between UNL & Lincoln Public Schools They will be working with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources on east campus. It’s about opportunities for our students – not just during their time in LPS, but to help them as they transition to post-secondary college and career pathways.
She has chaired every major board subcommittee multiple times. She currently serves as chair of the Safe and Successful Kids Interlocal joint board with the City Council
She has served the Nebraska Association of School boards as a director, and served as president in 2008. She was honored with the Ann Mactier School Board Member of the Year in 2018 for contributions to policy, curriculum & instruction. Kathy was inducted to the Distinguished Alumni at Lincoln Northeast High School in 2018.
